Hi,
I am John. I love Lego. I love building it, I love
displaying it, but I do not like playing with it. Weird, eh?
So, if I love building & displaying it, why don’t I have
more?
Well there four main reasons: Arran, Harris, Noah & Thea. I have four kids
so why does that stop me?
Arran & Noah are autistic, so with them Lego does not stay in once piece (unless in Arran’s case it is Lego technic as that is a bit more robust in the build quality). Harris & Thea love Lego but they are prone to losing parts especially if they break off so at a high level it is a bit difficult for me to have and display Lego sets with the kids. The last few years I have displayed mini figures that I have been buying but parts of them go missing (this is where Noah comes in as he loves figures and has lost my detailed Boba Fett mini figure’s armour and helmet). So, with that it is easier to not really have the Lego out.
In 2015 I bought, from Disneyland Paris of all places, a DC Superheroes detailed Lego Batman Tumbler. It actually became my carry on baggage for my flight home believe it or not! I took all the bags out of the box, folded the box up (put that into my suitcase) & i put all the bags & instructions in a carry bag to take with me (the set did cost the best part of £200 and was a 30th birthday present technically so was I hell risking losing it!) When i got home and got to work it was incredibly detailed and was an amazing set to build for the size of it. I'll post a "historic" blog on it as I took pictures of the build progress throughout including a comparison of the size of the set against my arm (I remember remarking that the set was as long as my oldest was when he was born). Unfortunately after a while of being out on display Arran, who was nearly 2 at the time, accidently broke some pieces off which I never recovered so I opted to dismantle the set & store it until a day when I could rebuild it, replace parts lost and permanently display it, fingers crossed. I am 8 years on and it's still in storage.
So that is where I am at with my interest/love for building Lego but as
it is mostly out of fear for losing pieces my Lego heart has been hurting and I
miss building sets. When I started my current job, I found they had a Lego group and loved
that there was a forum to talk about Lego and share builds so I started sharing
builds that I had done with the kids. On top of that, for a while I have been seeing adverts
about a Lego borrowing service “Brick Borrow” where for a monthly fee and
delivery charge per borrow, you can borrow sets, build them, and return them
when you want. It is like having the sets and then moving on when you want
something else to have/build. This sounded interesting and I have been putting
it off and off, but I have decided to take the plunge and that is where what I
am currently writing comes in.
This is my borrowing journey where I will be borrowing sets,
talking/reporting on the building and posting my findings/reviewing the sets. So,
join me on my journey and even help me decide what I should borrow next.
At time of writing my first set is on it's way to me so stay tuned shortly to see what I picked for my first set and what it's like to build/display.
Here is a hint for you "I am a Lego builder like my father before me"
